Big Rigs, Tight Turns, Safe Driving: It’s Training Day in the ±ղԱ® Simulator

WITney-Simulator-Upgrades-1200x628A woman "takes a spin" on the new simulator in the WITney(r) Educational Trailer to get a feel of what it's like behind the wheel.

Climb into a truck driver simulator, and suddenly you’re not just watching—you’re behind the wheel of a large rig, mirrors stretching wide, engine rumbling beneath you. As you navigate through tight-loading truck yards or merge onto crowded roadways, this simulator realistically mimics every challenge a real professional truck driver faces: blind spots that swallow compact cars, trailers that pivot with every turn, and the need for precise control when backing into a dock with inches to spare. With realistic resistance in the wheel and accurate road feedback, it becomes clear that navigating a semi-truck isn’t just driving—it’s problem-solving in motion.

Such a truck driver simulator is just one of many features that is part of the WITney® Educational Trailer, which has been raising awareness of WIT’s mission— promoting career opportunities women have in trucking, celebrating their accomplishments, and removing obstacles female professional drivers face. Traveling to scores of locations and industry events each year, the WITney® Trailer’s immersive truck driver simulator not only builds respect for the skill and focus required but also helps potential drivers practice safe maneuvers in a risk-free environment, turning complex scenarios into teachable moments.

Enhancing the ±ղԱ® Truck Driving Simulator Experience

Since 2020, the ±ղԱ® Trailer has been placing future drivers in the virtual driver’s seat, offering a hands-on glimpse into the real-world experience of navigating a big rig. It’s the perfect way to shift curiosity into confidence with a true-to-life taste of the truck driving in different scenarios, regions of the country, weather conditions, and more.

However, recently trailer’s custom-made state-of-the-art driver simulator has been significantly upgraded to provide several training modules, including driving on the highway, tight turns, parking in a dock and driving in rainy and snowy weather. This user experience of this new simulator isn't drastically different than previously, but the upgraded technology is dramatically faster and much easier to set-up, notes Jenny Fall, Director of Driver Engagement for the һƷ̽ (WIT).

This high-tech upgrade has been made possible courtesy of Advanced Training Systems (ATS), a diversified design, manufacturing and virtual simulation group of companies based in St. Petersburg, FL.

"Our partnership with ATS has been essential to the WITney education program,” says Fall. “The simulator experience continues to be the 'star' of any event - and gives WIT the opportunity to engage with members, young people and others curious about trucking. With the most state-of-the-art equipment and the continued support of companies like ATS, we are able to make an impact and share our mission even further each and every year."

Rebecca-Hudson-300x300“ATS is proud of the partnership we have shared with Women in Trucking for several years,” says Rebecca Hudson, President of ATS. “Our missions align in wanting to create opportunities to engage the best CDL drivers for the industry. The WIT simulator is our way of showing our commitment to that mission.”

Other Features of the ±ղԱ® Educational Trailer

The ±ղԱ® Trailer isn’t just limited to the truck driving simulator, however. It also features interactive kiosks on Trucking 101 questions, common myth busters, general Q&A, and a quiz on whether trucking would be the right career fit for visitors.

In addition, headset kiosks enable visitors to hear inspirational stories about how women build successful careers as professional truck drivers while balancing family, work, and lifestyle. There’s also a female trucker uniform display and a wall mural showcasing WIT’s accomplishments since the association’s inception in 2007.
